Ahh, the classics

Okay, I have an admission to make. I haven't read many of the great classics in the world of literature.

Some of the ones I have read are, The Great Gatsby, Catcher In The Rye, The Scarlet Letter, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Pride and Prejudice. Except for Pride and Prejudice, I read the other novels way back in high school.

But over the weekend I picked up my daughter's copy of The Secret Garden, and oh my goodness, I couldn't put it down. I have about 40 pages to go, and I must say, I am in love with this book. How could I not have read it before?

This makes me wonder what other great classics have I missed? Are any of you avid readers of the classics? And if so, what are your absolute favorites? Give me your MUST READ list of classics.

My favorite classics are some that people think are nuts! I love love Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I read them both every year. I love the dark sort of weirdness to them! I also love Great Expectations by Dickens. Little Princess is amazingly sweet too by Burnett. So if you're in for weird dark, and old Engligh, go for the Bronte sisters! Also Phantom of the Opera (classic? it's old..) by Gaston Leroux is really good...you already know the story probably, but the original story it's adapted from is awesome! My list is huge! I'll dig more up for you if ya want!!

Pride and Prejudice. Always and forever. Nothing can compare to it. I love all of Jane's book, but my copy of that book is barely holding together anymore. May just have to go read it right now...

I'm no good at classics either, but I HAVE read the Secret Garden and loved it. Good choice. I also want to read Jane Eyre, and if I get brave enough, Les Miserables.

I never read classics in high school. Even when I had to read at least one and report on it, I never finished reading them. I just didn't get them.

Now, I would totally recommend Jane Eyre. Love that book, love any movie I've seen from it.

I watched an adaptation of North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I decided to read the book and it was a tougher read for me. But I enjoyed the movie. Also Wives and Daughters by the same author. I liked reading that one.

Little Women.

I have been reading some of the abridged for children classics to my kids. They liked Secret Garden too.

My copy of The Secret Garden is so well loved it's in two pieces now. The spine cracked right in half.

Anne of Green Gables, Cherry Ames, Little House on the Prairie, so many great kid classics out there.

I love Secret Garden too. Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice are also some favorite! Hence the reason I liked Growing up Gracie so much.

I love childrens books and sharing them with my children. We loved Wizard of Oz and Charlotte's Web.
I also like
Strawberry Girl
Freckles
Girl of the Limber Lost
Miracles on Maple Hill
Caddie Woodlawn
And so many more.
Right now I have a goal to read all of the Newbery Medal winners.
Most of them have been wonderful.
